I think Arua is on to something with the 3rd party theory. This is really deep forbidden stuff in play here. Anyone learned enough, and evil enough, to "master" this level of knowledge would have no reason whatsoever to recruit a mediocre nobody to be their principle actor. No, someone with that level of power would recruit someone much more capable, and instruct *them* to recruit the nobody as a scapegoat/decoy. Let's face it: as much power as she's been given, Nixie is WAY to inexperienced and immature to wield it with sophistication. Our master player would want a buffer between her and themselves.
