A year or so ago I started an experiment where I did actually try to keep track of voting patterns of certain comics in the list, for the top, middle, and around the same ranking as GRATZ was then. I stopped doing that for several reasons, one being it was taking up a lot of time I didn't have then, and don't really have now. But while I was doing it I learned a few things that showed me that it was not all that helpful.
1. All of the comics that are in the same ranking range as GRATZ share one thing in common: they are all completely DIFFERENT genres. There is no perceivable cross-over audience there, so no easy way to judge how their voting affects GRATZ's voting.
2. Audience =/= voters. GRATZ consistently out polls the extremely popular comic HOUSEPETS. Housepets has such a large established readership that it easily supports PRINTED BOOKS of collected strips. That audience just doesn't vote in the list, and Rick Griffin doesn't make any efforts to encourage voting. If he did, I would imagine the comic would be hitting in the top 100. But the readership is already such he doesn't need additional exposure.
3. Comics that rate higher have unique traits that grab audiences that gravitate toward those draws. Whether soft-porn, furry, female, fantasy, adventure, you name it. "By The Book" is a DnD gaming-inspired comic, yes; but it's draw is that it's unabashedly soft-porn. GRATZ isn't going to build readership that way. A closer competitor that consistently polls higher than GRATZ is "The Pale", an all black & white comic that emphasizes supernatural horror set in a story about the old west. Not our audience.
While it's tempting to compare against the competition, ultimately in this case it's not that helpful. Based on the best numbers Lacking has given me, GRATZ would be ranking higher *if more of the readership were consistently voting daily.* This is what I've tried to encourage repeatedly in the past, but it's something you just can't force. The best we can do is emphasize how easy it is to register that daily vote, and ask people to do so.
It's just a quick idea, I'm not really big into time travel stories so it's just serving as a chaos excuse to facilitate the story.
I'm reaaaally liking the new customization options for the races but I'm kinda sad that only a few get the ability to have scars, jewelry, or makeup. Also, fair warning for other worgen players but the independent options for both forms is a tad bit messed up. Redditors and others on the WoW forum have had success with using only the arrow keys to select options and having it stick, otherwise it gets real weird real quick.
But still it's cool.
