To the question at hand: there's no way these yokels are going to catch Veja. Even though he doesn't know these hills as well as they might; they can't match his skill and experience. If he wanted to, he could pick off every single one of them individually and not break a sweat. And his grin in the last panel shows he knows that.
That's not the plan.
He's going to lead them on a merry chase, cut down a few on the way to keep them mad and invested in chasing him. Then Arua's going to go in for Six-Horn. And if I were betting, I would bet Tirea is somewhere high-up for backup.
