HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
As there will be no update on Tuesday I wanted to offer a little perspective on where the comic is, what progress has been made, and an observation on the year to come.
As of noon today, Gratz is #367 with 169 votes. This is before most of Monday votes will tally, but I'm expecting it to end around #365. Maybe it's the Christmas holidays, but this was down a fair bit from October (#316, 256 votes) and even November (#327, 231 votes). But this is a retrospective on the entire year, which was the first I started keeping detailed records. On January 31, 2018, Gratz finished #538 with 101 votes. That right there shows the progress the comic has made. But let's look further.
February 2018: #504, 103 votes
March 2018: #610, 88 votes
April 2018: #610, 78 votes
May, 2018: #676, 58 votes
June, 2018: #737, 44 votes
July, 2018: #726, 50 votes
August 2018: #623, 64 votes
September 2018:#417, 148 votes
In September was when the comic really started taking off in numbers. Several things happened in September. First, you had to cut back to just two pages a week. I made several observations about that, including suggesting that you could make it work with a page a day, which you started in October. Second, I suggested putting a vote button down at the bottom of the page with the comments. Third, I started getting really vocal about the voting (which I often worried might irritate readers more than motivate them.) But everything together seems to have worked, as the last 3 months of the year GRATZ has finished in the mid-to low 300s, which is a huge improvement from the start of the year.
Looking ahead to 2019 I see no reason that GRATZ cannot continue to improve in the standings. We know the art and story will continue to do so. The key to doing this is the same as ever: we need people to vote every day. Honestly it takes less than a minute: pull up the page, click one of the voting buttons, answer the robot question, and it's done. Every vote pulls the comic higher in the Top Webcomic List, and the higher it ranks the more potential readers can see it.
Also in September and really October I added the extra voting picture. (which a new one is up now!)
Thanks for all your hard work, I wish Gratz had more success to appreciate all you do.
