I think Cer'veja was actually very restrained here, considering what he just heard.
And I'm sorry, Lacking, but I have to correct you. GRATZ actually ended up at #417, with 148 votes at the end of September. I normally wait and take the final read very late on the last day. Hopeful, am I. The total is not even the most interesting part of the voting, even though it is the highest the comic has ever rated. No, the real story is what happened to the voting during the month. As I initially observed, the voting was steady but not spectacular for pretty much the entire first half of the month. It only kicked into high gear following the 09/17/18 update. I made a point of emphasizing how much voting had been picking up, right before 09/18, when is the first day you ran the bonus pic. From that point I started seeing consistent daily totals of 7-9 unique votes, which continued to drop off over the weekends. Then came 09/24 update and the votes exploded. Over a 5-day period the comic scored "14, 9, 8, 14, 7" at which point GRATZ was sitting at #411 and I was holding my breath, certain it was going to crack 400 for the first time. Then the weekend hit...and Saturday saw 5 votes, and yesterday 1.
We missed #400 by 18 votes: the difference between 148 and 166. Had we continued on pace with between 9-14 daily votes we would have smashed that.I haven't looked at today's votes yet, but I'm going to. I worry that I'm over-hyping, and that readers will get tired of hearing me. But we were so, very close; and, what I've seen tells me that we can probably achieve another record month if we can keep up consistently voting. Less than a minute a day, to push GRATZ upward into the view of more and more new readers.
And while I'm over-harping on votes, what happened to our comments? I feel like I'm monopolizing this space, and I don't want to do that. There used to be a regular crew of readers commenting and I miss that, and I bet Lacking does too.
Anyways, long-time lurker here. Been skulking around since the WoW days, as I was directed here via the old WoWInsider Sunday roundup article. I think I popped in while Lacking still did his work with just pencils and paper.
It's been a ride watching Lacking's artstyle, toolkit, and storytelling evolve over the years, and I've personally enjoyed his forays into world-building with this new world. A lot of thought and planning has gone into this world (as we have seen with the well-placed exposition page this week), and I look forward to learning more as things continue to progress.
My only real grate and critique for the current state of the game here is (and forgive me for being nitpicky) the occasional spelling flubs or grammar faux pas. I hope Lacking at least considers getting one or two 'beta readers' to pick through the scripts and iron those little details out.
...
... and now it feels like /I'm/ being too chatty.
Back to the lurking hollows I go. Thanks for entertaining and informing us, Lacking. We might be quiet, but we are genuinely rooting for you.
~Walker
...Now I'm giving away points. Who shall answer....
Thank you for unlurking Walker. As for the spellammering...I've come to just quietly tell myself that this is a foreign land, with alien, not human people, who have different quirks and inflections of language than we do. Yes, yes that's what I tell myself. All the time. In one sense I would love to help out, but then it would feel less like Lacking's own effort. Also, every update would be spoiled. Imma keep with the alien world concept.
Voting note: It's looking very interesting so far, so I will be posting a status update this coming Monday. I would absolutely love to see a weekend where the votes don't go down.
And there are times that I'll fold in a speech patter for people. So Cer'veja is less likely to use good grammar or big words.
So thank you for putting up with my confusing spelling and grammer. It's not easy I know to tell when it is intended and when I'm just messing it up. Hope you continue to enjoy the story flubs and all.
