Was Nixxie and the other warlocks(?) on the island part of the younger brother's henchmen?
It would kind of fit as a continuation/buildup.

Although it's certainly possible, if this was long enough ago, that things have turned around and the older brother's kingdon is now corrupt and evil, and the younger brother's people are now good and just.

We shall see. :)
