Twice now, I have wondered to myself "what's with those drums?" Now...I've gotta bad feeling. So the legend talks about a ghost army marching at night to kill anyone who isn't a worthy warrior. How much of that is just legend, and how much is actually another stage of trials?

Think about it: their society values hard work, honesty, and giving so much they have a 3 day ritual quest to weed out those who aren't going to be a good fit for the community. At the same time, they've also been in a, for all intents and purposes, perpetual state of war with their neighbors for thousands of years. How long would they survive if their warriors were less than first-rate?

If your society demands you "filter out" those without honor, diligence and charity; do you also make the decision to remove those who can't fight from the gene pool? It's a real cold-blooded thought, but when your survival depends on harsh choices, you learn to make harsh choices. Or, you don't survive.

The trials more of remove those who don't practice the virtues. As such physical ability has very little to do if your in the society. What Cer'veja was participating in was away to show you where worthy to defended the tribe but the honor gained in combat is not equal to the honor that is your honesty.
