My thoughts for the week.

Blizzard has final posted about that realm shut down that took place. I'm not going to get into that because there are issues involved with that outside of developers hands. Instead I want to talk about something that Blizzard said at the end of their post.

"Over the years we have talked about a “pristine realm”. In essence that would turn off all leveling acceleration including character transfers, heirloom gear, character boosts, Recruit-A-Friend bonuses, WoW Token, and access to cross realm zones, as well as group finder."

Now it's the "Pristine Realm" I would like to talk about. You see MMO Champion did a survey with a simple question. "Would you play on a Pristine Realm? Yes or No?" At the time of writing the score is 49.01% Yes - 50.99% No. (89,451 people voted) That means the majority of people who voted said No they wouldn't play on a Pristine Realm.

Now let's not get carried away yet, that's the closest 50-50 split I've ever seen in my life! So this is something that should be looked at and talked about. But you see there is another problem. This survey only was voted on by 89,000 people (rounded to the nearest thousand) way less than the 10,000,000 mark Wow has broken in the past. If my math is correct that's only 0 .89% of the player base, that is tiny! So a few things to keep in mind is that if you where to involve more of the player base, that survey could have a very large swing.

The other mater is a "Pristine Realm" is not a older version of the game. So if you wanted the classic realms this is not it. What this sounds like is the live game but with the convince turned off.

So is this a bad thing? I don't think so. You see Blizzard for years has tried to find a happy medium between easy and hard. But everywhere else in the industry you see games being carved up more by difficulty options. "easy, normal, hard" even games that are intended to be hard like Dark souls offer a NG+ (new game plus) option after beating it. Simply this industry has found that rather than try and find a theoretical "medium" or risk limiting their market by making a game too hard or too easy. It is better to just carve up the game with difficulty settings.

And we see Blizzard starting to do this. For years they wanted to keep PvE and PvP similar but time has proved that both sides are suffering from this. So in Legion they have gone ahead and split the two giving them both unique talents and stats (for the most part) This way both parts of the game and now be tuned without impacting each other. (However I do suspect major changes some aspects of the game will continue to effect one another.)

We also see this in Raids, there use to be just 40 player raids, then 10 and 25 as well as normal and heroics. now LFR, Normal, Heroic, Mythic.


But this "Pristine Realm" isn't really about difficulty in fact more likely it's more about Social aspects of the game. Now last week I said WoW is dependent on its social aspect of the game to keep things rolling. What a Pristine Realm dose is removes modern convince of the game like LFG and LFR as well as XP boosts. So what does this mean? It means that to play on this realm you very well may need to be willing to talk to people more, find groups, join guilds, run to dungeon entrances. (That should be a thing again on these realms) But should the whole game be like this?

No I don't think so but that's more about accessibility vs difficulty and that's something I don't want to talk about right now. So to keep it simple Pristine Realm, what do you think!

That a Getsuga Tensho, or a Bahnkai she unleashes there?

I'm a little worried here. The other times Arua had to kill someone it was against her will, and something she regretted having to do. This...this is the rage coming out. "Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering." I understand hate all too well; I want better for her than that.

Nostalgia is a funny thing. We're almost never nostalgic for exactly what we think we're nostalgic for. I would not be interested in playing on a pristine realm as defined by Blizzard. I wouldn't be interested in playing on a realm where I could never progress past level 60 content. I also wouldn't even be interested in playing on a realm which was MoP level and never anything more. BUT...ask me about a realm with MoP class mechanics; MoP level storytelling; MoP raid structure. Keep everything about Mists, only add more story, more content, more raids, more EVERYTHING.

Just without committing the butchery Blizzard is committing on Legion Alpha right now. Without turning the game into a bastardized mess. Without turning it into a pile of filth I won't be able to stand to play.

If it was Getsuga Tensho I would have had to spend at lest five episodes of standing and talking with two sword swings then follow it up with another episode of talking and three more episodes of one ups.

Did Getsuga Tensho ever beat anything past it's first appearance?

I think pristine realms sound like a great idea. Only problem is it would bring back the "horde server" and "alliance server" imbalances seen during vanilla.
